Floral Art Questions (FAQ)
- 01The sooner, the better! Fruit Of The Bloom will do our best to accommodate every order, but our studio space can book up fast. We take a limited number of custom orders per week so we can give every piece the attention it deserves. We recommend you book your date as soon as you book your florist especially during wedding season; March - June and September - November are our busiest months. We do take last-minute orders - as long as your flowers are in good enough shape! - and will always leave room for memorial orders.
- 02The minimum for a custom floral preservation order is $400 (excluding memorial orders). There are a multitude of Bouquet Blocks and Artwork Additions to choose from, but if you are interested in highlighting many or most of the flowers in your bouquet, we suggest starting with a Bouquet Block. Feel free to reach out for recommendations based on your unique blooms and style!
- 03We require a nonrefundable $100 deposit to reserve your date and space in our studio. The remaining balance is due when we receive your flowers, before we will begin the preservation process, and the $100 will be applied to your order total. If you are not local and need to mail us your bouquet, please note that you are responsible overnight or 2-day shipping fees. If you would like us to ship your custom preservation order once it is complete, you will receive a separate invoice for shipping, which is due before we mail your botanical keepsakes.
- 04Costs associated with shipping fresh flowers vary greatly depending on your location and the shipping service used and can be anywhere from $50 to a few hundred dollars. There are two options to help mitigate these costs: • Local drop-off and pick-up - If you live within 50 miles of the Fruit of the Bloom studio, we would be happy to arrange pick up of your flowers for a flat rate of $75 • Dry at home - We can provide detailed instructions on what to buy and how to dry your flowers at home. Dried flowers can then be mailed to Fruit of the Bloom using standard shipping, with an additional discount of $50. If your flowers have air-dried, you will also receive this discount on your order. If you would us to mail you your preservation order, you will receive a separate invoice for shipping - at cost. We typically add insurance for your irreplaceable items and send them USPS or UPS ground - whichever is less expensive - unless you have a preference.
- 05Yes, we’d be happy to preserve any air-dried bouquets, regardless of age. Resin will help preserve that vintage look of your bouquet and prevent further breakage or dust from getting into your special blooms. We can also work with wood or silk flowers. Previously dried or faux bouquets will receive a discount of $50.
- 06Yes, we do take in last-minute bouquets - pending we have the studio space and materials to do so - as long as your flowers are still in good shape. Please be ready to share a photo or video of your bouquet so we can access if they will be okay for the drying and preserving process. If you no longer have your flowers, send us photos of your bouquet, and we can visit our friends at The Original Los Angeles Flower Market to recreate your arrangement, for an additional fee of $50 and the cost of the flowers (wholesale pricing). Our recreation service is also a great way to celebrate an anniversary!
- 07Succulents, cacti and hypericum berries do not dry well. If you would like to replace with artificial versions in your floral pieces, we are happy to source faux versions for an additional fee. Due to their high moisture content, the color of tropical flowers tend to change most drastically during the drying process. Generally speaking, while we like to highlight the natural beauty and lifecycle of your meaningful flowers, we do color-correct a few flowers (ex: anthurium, calla lilies, ginger, some orchids) to better reflect their original hue. This service is currently complimentary.
- 08It depends on which keepsake(s) you are ordering, but we usually recommend you provide us with your entire bouquet so we can pick the best flowers. If you are ordering a Bouquet Block AND Artwork Additions items, we will likely request that you also provide a bridesmaid bouquet or centerpiece so we have enough blooms to choose from for your order. It’s always better to send extra flowers whenever possible, especially with delicate flowers like anemones, chrysanthemums, dahlias, lilies, orchids and tulips. Whenever you place your order, we will let you know how many arrangements we might need as well as how to keep them in the best condition possible before we receive them.
- 09Orders typically take 4-5 months to complete, including at least one month just to dry the flowers. We treat your delicate flowers - your precious memories - as if they are our own, and this process cannot be rushed. We promise it will be worth the wait and will provide you email updates about your carefully crafted botanical art.
- 10Drying flowers in silica sand is the best way to preserve a bouquet’s natural beauty, but slight changes in color are inevitable. Reds and purples tend to become darker and whites can turn off-white or a little yellow. Some flowers, particularly white blooms (ex: anemones and orchids), may appear translucent or “bruised” once they are cast in resin. For all white bouquets, we suggest talking to your florist about adding more texture and variety in the type of flowers used as they will make for a better preservation. The less your bouquet is handled, the better. If tossing the bridal bouquet is an important part of your wedding reception, we recommend asking your florist to create a separate or faux bouquet for the toss. If you are planning to preserve a boutonniere or corsage, we ask that you take care of it - or perhaps take it off post photos - so that it is less apt to get damaged. We believe that natural changes in flowers are part of their beauty, and while we prefer not to offer color correction services, we will color correct ginger, anthurium, calla lilies and select other flowers that tend to dry in drastically different hues at no additional fee. If there are concerns about specific color changes, don't hesitate to reach out.
- 11Yes! We love incorporating other items into your personalized floral keepsakes. Photos, invitations, hairpieces, jewelry, lace, ribbon, glass shards (from the breaking of the glass), and cake toppers are just an example of what can be included and are all complimentary. Background colors - especially black or white - really allow your flowers to pop! We can do just about any custom color to match the color scheme of your event or home. For an additional fee, we can also add vinyl lettering in black, white, rose gold, gold or silver in most any font to most Bouquet Blocks and Artwork Additions. Have an idea that you don't see here? We love customization and are happy to work with you to find the perfect keepsake you'll want to use or display in your home.
- 12Flor-ever! Fruit Of The Bloom uses premium, crystal clear, UV-resistant, VOC-free (Volatile Organic Compounds) epoxy resin to ensure your bespoke botanical art can be enjoyed for years and years. Over time, the resin may develop a slight amber, “vintage” color, which is inevitable for all resin and is totally natural. To keep your pieces from yellowing prematurely, please keep them out of heat, humidity or direct sunlight. To clean them, use mild soap and water and dry using a microfiber cloth. No chemical cleaners, please.
- 13We do, pending we have the studio space and materials to accommodate your bouquet. It is also important that your flowers are in good enough shape for the preservation process, so please let us know if they are older than 2-3 days post-event. Some events in life are not planned. We will always make room for memorial preservation orders.
- 14Yes, we do. They are available in any demonination. And adding a “preservation fund” (ie: gift certificate) to your registry, is an excellent way for friends and family to contribute to your flor-ever keepsake.
- 15Reservation dates can be rescheduled and are subject to availability.
- 16All sales are final, and all payments are non-refundable. If there is an issue with your order, please let us know as soon as you receive it. Due to the nature of our handmade process, please know that imperfections may exist. Resin is a finicky medium, and while we will do our best to try and eliminate bubbles, it is likely that there may be a few bubbles in your final pieces. You will likely also see transparent "love spots" on petals where flowers have been touched, “pour lines” that will be visible on the sides of blocks or tiny dots of silica sand. These elements are all part of the beauty of your one-of-a-kind artwork.
